Science Room, Heidelberg Technical School
Posted on Saturday, 26th October 2024 by Janine Rizzetti
From the mid-1950s on there was a huge expansion in secondary education in Victoria. Not only was the post-war Baby Boomer generation reaching secondary-school age, but in Heidelberg, Rosanna and Macleod there was a large expansion of secondary-school age students whose parents had moved into the post-war housing estates of the area.
Heidelberg Technical School, shown here, opened in 1955 at its permanent site on the corner of Bell Street and Waterdale Rd, after temporary accommodation the previous year at sites including the Old Shire Offices.
It was an all-boys school until 1983. In 1989 it amalgamated with Heidelberg High School and La Trobe High School for form Banksia Secondary College.
