Further information

John Bell (1844-1924) belonged to the early pioneering family at Kangaroo Ground. His grandparents, William and Agnes Bell, together with their five children had arrived in Victoria aboard the David Clarke in 1839. They took up land at Kangaroo Ground, naming their farm Violet Bank and were foundation members of the Presbyterian Church there.

In 1886 John Bell married Elizabeth Charlton (1859-1952), also from Kangaroo Ground. See [F2]. Reverend Duncan Fraser conducted the service. Elizabeth and John were devout members of the Kangaroo Ground Presbyterian Church: John served as its Sabbath School superintendent for 28 years.
