Alexander Crichton (1849-1899) was an early Kangaroo Ground settler. He selected 125 acres on Bouchiers Road with frontage to the Yarra River in the late 1860s – early 1870s. 1 In 1874 Alexander married Mary Ann (1856-1946), daughter of his next-door neighbour Edward Bunker. 2, 3 The couple had nine children: the eldest was Mary Ann Margaret Crichton (1875-1962). 4 She married Gilbert Hamilton Smith in 1896 5, one of the sons of David and Ann Smith of Holyrood Park, Templestowe, long standing members of Heidelberg Scots Presbyterian Church.
