This square represents Captain George Robertson Cumming (1856-1930).

Further information

Born in Scotland, Captain Cumming migrated to Australia and worked in the merchant navy. In 1891 he married Annie Smith of Templestowe - see [K13] - and they lived at 2 Forster Street, Williamstown.

When the quilt was made, George and Annie had three small boys, each of whom has a square on the quilt:

• Don (1892-1971) is at [E11]

• Andrew (1894-1979) is at [J4]

• Max (1895-1919) is at [D2]
