Heidelberg’s Busy Bee Signature Quilt, 1895-96

Square M8

Quilt square M8

Transcription

George Robertson

Summary

This square is likely to represent the same man that the Sands & McDougall Directory for 1895 records as 'G Robertson', a farmer living on Lower Plenty Rd, Heidelberg. It is likely that he was the same person as the George Robertson (of Plenty) who was an elected Councillor for the South Riding of the Shire of Eltham during the 1880s and 1890s.

Further information

The Scots Church archives show that a Mr Robertson paid fees for one seat in the church in 1892-94 and 1895-96, and a Mrs Robertson paid for the seat in the intervening year, 1894-95. This suggests that George Robertson was married to the ‘Mrs G Robertson’ who contributed the square at [N5].

Their son Henry may have contributed the ‘Mr Robertson’ square at [M16].
