It's Been Wet!
Posted on Monday, 14th June 2021 by Janine Rizzetti
It’s been pretty wet here in Melbourne for the past week, but here’s a picture from the 1930s, showing Warringal Park oval under water. The floods of Nov- December 1934 were extensive along the Yarra River, inundating farmland, roads, houses, bridges and train and tram tracks. A single lake formed from South Yarra to Warrandyte. The rain started falling on 29 November 1934 and in the 48 hours to 1 December, 144 mm fell in Melbourne. There were floods in May of the following year as well.
