April Meeting Tuesday 11 April 2023

Posted on Saturday, 8th April 2023 by Janine Rizzetti

Horses, Water and Very Kind People

Presented by Julie and Terry Scott

Julie Scott has been interested in Bills Horse Troughs since sighting the Bills trough outside the old Moonee Ponds Court House (home of the Essendon Historical Society) in 2015.

Since that moment, she and her husband, Terry, have immersed themselves in the history of the Bills Horse troughs and have acquired a large amount of knowledge on this subject. From very small and tentative beginnings, she and Terry have travelled extensively throughout Victoria and New South Wales sighting these troughs and, to date, have seen a total of 253 troughs. Each of these troughs is carefully examined for damage, is photographed, a GPS is taken, and the location is recorded. All this detailedinformation is maintained on the master sheet for use by other researchers.

Julie has met many people on her travels and they often impart a lot of interesting information about the trough’s history in their locality. Locals often tell her about the community’s interaction with the trough and their stories of the “early days”.

Please join us at 8.00 p.m. on Tuesday 11 April at the Ivanhoe Uniting Church Community Centre, Seddon St Ivanhoe.
