Happy 100th birthday Ivanhoe Methodist Temple!

Posted on Saturday, 25th October 2025 by Janine Rizzetti

On Saturday 24th October 1925 the Ivanhoe Methodist Church officially opened its ‘temple’ in Station Street (now Seddon St) Ivanhoe. They certainly built quickly in those days because the foundation stone for the church had only been laid just 3 months earlier. The new temple, complete with tower, was built alongside the older brick church building that dated from 1903, seen to the left of the photo.

The new temple was designed by Mr John Jenkin to hold 500 worshippers and it was filled to overflowing on the following Sunday 25th October, when three services were held. The festivities continued on Monday 26th October when the organist of St Paul’s Cathedral, Dr A. E. Floyd gave a musical recital, but unfortunately the occasion was cut short by an electricity failure just before 10.00 p.m.
