Members' Meeting: The World War I conscription plebiscites: Heidelberg.

Posted on Monday, 4th December 2017 by Nick Gammon

December members’ meeting

Our next meeting of members is at 8 pm on Tuesday 12th December 2017 at:

    Uniting Church Community Centre
    Seddon Street
    Ivanhoe

Everyone is welcome. Admission is free. Parking is at the rear. Please bring a plate for supper.

At this meeting, Dr Janine Rizzetti will mark the 100th anniversary of the second referendum by reviewing the campaigns through the eyes and ears of residents in the Heidelberg and Ivanhoe areas. Through songs and images, she will identify the groups and individuals who were active on both sides of the campaign, and explain the results at a local level.

Janine Rizzetti is the Secretary of the Heidelberg Historical Society. Her interest in the conscription campaigns was piqued while compiling the “Hundred Years” column for our newsletter.

Along with our President, Jenn Burgess, Janine has been involved in the “Serenading Adela” project which will culminate on 7th January 2018 with a street theatre performance at Pentridge Prison, after more than 18 months of activities relating to the conscription referendums in Melbourne.
