Summary

This square represents Andrew Smith Cumming (1894-1979).

Further information

Aged about 2 when the quilt was made, Andrew was the second surviving son of Captain and Mrs Cumming, living at 2 Forster Street, Williamstown. (Their second son, George Robertson Cumming, had died as an infant in 1893.)

His father, Captain George Cumming, has a square at [K9].

His mother, born Annie Smith of Templestowe, has a square at [K13].

One of Don’s aunts was the Busy Bee, Christine Smith - see [Central].

His two brothers also have squares on the quilt. Don is at [E11] and Max is at [D2].

Andrew served overseas during World War 1.
